This thinning road-cum-field V

Here’s BBC’s Newsnight debating the issues as to whether there’s a mounting world food crisis and the means to address it. It includes Andrew Simms, Director of the excellent New Economics Foundation, debating in favour of the wholescale reviewing of the agri-system; Simms privileges citizen (as opposed to corporate) technology and science and the efficiency of the smallscale farmer, and gives the laissez-faire free market approach of his opposing debater (the pro-GM Richard North) a good run. North’s final parting shot, his implication as to how the British electorate doesn’t impact small scale farmers around the world, sounded a good few decades out of date. It’s a pity Newsnight didn’t give the issues more air time, which they deserved – good stuff, but not BBC brogramming at its best.
