Indigenous trading with the industrial – in Oz

An oil platform in Australia is paying Aborigines to offset the oil company’s carbon emissions, by minimising the spread of bush fires using their traditional knowledge. This strikes me as an excellent arrangement: providing much-needed income to a down-trodden and abused peoples, protecting settlements from being ravaged by fires, and reducing carbon emissions.
