The turning of big wheels

The media baron Rupert Murdoch’s always been a bit of a trailblazer. I remember watching the film, Black and White – based on the true story of an Australian aboriginal, Max Stuart, who had been accused of the murder of a young girl. It was Murdoch’s editorial decision to support Stuart on the front pages of his then-comparatively local newspaper that led to a re-trial. It was a gutsy move in the late 1950s. So it’s a nice treat to learn of a second instance of community-mindededness on his part, namely his intention to turn News Corp. carbon neutral by 2010; which should be doable, but it isn’t unambitious either, given their activity last year emitted 641,150 tonnes of greenhouse gases. Only three years off; watch this space.
