The good people of Swaffham

Some are rude about the people of Norfolk, perceiving them to be backward and closed-minded. Judging by the responses of locals to their Swaffham wind turbines, this must be far from the case. Maybe their open-mindedness is influenced by the good fortune of the legendary figure of John Chapman, the pedlar who’s recurring dream sent him to London Bridge where he met a shopkeeper sceptical of the significance of dreams…

The attribution of backwardness no doubt has something related to theirs being a predominantly rural county. (And I would add that it’s one of the few counties blessed to have a single carriageway as its main entry road across its border; this limits globalised freight traffic. The last surviving stretch of single carriageway runs through the Thetford Forest. Long may it last.)

Note how the wind turbine is reasonably quiet.
